Oral communication

Recognize and use some basic active listening strategies (e.g., stop what they are doing, look at the speaker).

Recognize that oral and oral-visual communications have a purpose, and identify that purpose (e.g., to obtain information, to follow simple verbal instructions, to respond to comprehension questions) when listening and viewing.

Identify the important ideas, information, and/or messages in oral and oral-visual communications, restating them in their own words.

Use a simple, logical sequence to communicate ideas, information, and opinions clearly and coherently.

Use a variety of visual and/or multimedia aids to enhance their presentations (e.g., use appropriate objects to demonstrate a process, use basic video or audio recording technology).

Writing

Determine, independently or with guidance from the teacher, the purpose of and audience for the text they are planning to create.

Sort and classify their ideas and information, listing those they intend to present in a logical order.

Write descriptive paragraphs (e.g., describing a person, place, or thing): using an appropriate structure (i.e., a topic sentence, developing sentences, and a concluding sentence); using descriptive vocabulary.

Make simple revisions to improve the content, clarity, and interest of their written work, using feedback from the teacher and focusing on the following: ensuring that all relevant ideas and information are included, and deleting unnecessary ideas and information.

Produce a clean and legible final draft, using simple techniques and resources to format and enhance the presentation, with a focus on the following: using headings appropriately to help organize the text; using underlining, colour, and/or a different style of lettering (e.g., printing, cursive writing, a different font) to emphasize certain text; integrating clip art, photos, and/or diagrams to supplement or to reinforce information and messages.

Déroulement et directives

Peux-tu expliquer ce qu’est le plastique? Promène-toi et dresse la liste de tout ce que tu trouveras. Certains objets ne te sembleront pas faits de cette matière, alors vérifie bien.

• Que penses-tu trouver? Pense à des jouets, à des emballages de friandises ou autres.

Le plastique se trouve presque partout, mais savais-tu qu’il n’avait pas toujours existé?

Tu effectueras une petite recherche sur le plastique. Oui, il peut être très pratique, mais combien néfaste pour la planète!

Activité(s) d’apprentissage

Ton travail de recherche sera rédigé en anglais, bien sûr. Je t’invite donc à consulter des livres ou des sites Web dans cette langue, si possible.

Ta recherche va porter sur les questions suivantes :

• What is plastic?
• How is plastic made?
• When and why did we start using plastic?
• Why are people reducing their plastic waste?
• What is plastic pollution? What causes this pollution? What about the effects on us and on the planet?
• Find at least three interesting and surprising facts about plastic.
• Triangles (from #1 to #7) are placed on plastic products to identify the type of plastic. Find the meaning of each number. Search in your home if you can find some articles with triangles underneath.
• You can watch a video. As an example, this one on plastic pollution gives a lot of information.
• Any other information you want to share.

Structure :

• Introduction
• Développement (réponses aux questions)
• Conclusion : Quel est l’avenir du plastique? Que fait-on pour réduire les déchets de plastique? Arriverons-nous un jour à éliminer le plastique? Propose une piste de solution.

Recherche : 

• Fais ta recherche dans des livres ou sur des sites Web.
• Prends des notes dans tes propres mots.
• Organise tes idées sous des sous-titres ou sous les questions ci-dessus.
• Rédige des phrases complètes à partir de tes notes.
• Révise et corrige ton ébauche.
• Transcris tes informations à l’aide d’un traitement de texte (Word), de Google Doc, de PowerPoint ou à la main si tu préfères.
• Ajoute des illustrations pour rendre ton texte plus attrayant et comme preuves à l’appui.

Présentation :

• Pratique souvent ta présentation.
• Assure-toi de respecter les caractéristiques d’une présentation orale : débit, prononciation, intonation, contact des yeux, gestes appropriés, vocabulaire soigné.
